Global Generation - Objectives

Main Objectives

1. To advance the education of the public by providing opportunities and instructions for the direct experience of natural wilderness environments.

2. To educate and assist young persons to develop their full potential so they are able to contribute positively to society and the environment.

Achieving Our Objectives

We currently achieve our objectives through four main initiatives which integrates the following elements:

A. Education

B. Environment

C. Health

D. Community Development

Key Actitives

1. Organic Farm Campsite - this activity offers firsthand experience of the natural environment thus enabling young people to go beyond barriers and embrace new ideas. Whilst on camp, young people enjoy fresh local healthy foods, practical work on the farm, and general enjoyment of the wild open spaces. These activities are embedded into a reflective process of discussion, creative writing, drama and art which enables young people to learn more about themselves in the context of global environmental issues.

2. Local Food and Healthy Eating - This involves young people growing edible crops on rooftop and ground level allotments, preparing and cooking harvested local produce in healthy ways for the local community, selling herbs and vegetables to local restaurants as well as learning to compost organic wastes. Participants are also introduced to issues in food packaging and transport in relation to Climate Change.

3. Living Buildings-Local Links - working with GLOBAL GENERATiON's workshop leaders, partnering environmental specialists and businesses, young people are engaged in the development and installation of 'Green Features' on commercial buildings. These features includes bio-diverse green roofs, water conservation systems, waste and renewable energy systems, furniture building from fallen and coppiced timbers. This project enables companies to build relationships and contribute to local communities in which they operate and in turn, young people are prepared for jobs in the new green economy. Also, where possible, we link practical work to core curriculum subjects.

4. The Generator (Youth Leadership) - Our youth leaders are the frontline for GLOBAL GENERATiON on our work with businesses. The Generators see themselves as volunteers for GLOBAL GENERATiON. We seek to continously develop transferable skills of these Generators to enable them with better prospects for securing a job as well as their current academic pursuits. Generators are trained with public speaking skills at an organisation called Speakers Bank. In order to ensure that the skills they've learnt are utilised and continually developed, the Generators are regularly invited to make presentations to key members of companies who are interested in the work of GLOBAL GENERATiON. They are also involved in the activities such as eco-auditing, workshop support, creative evaluation, journalism and hosting events.
