Project Description:
As part of their environmental and sustainable ethos, Acorn House teamed up with GLOBAL GENERATiON to create a kitchen garden on their sub-roof. Boys from Camden Job Train were the key participants in this development. The idea was to create a selection of plant holders using thick wood bark.

Acorn House then carried on the responsibility of maintaining the garden, employing the services of Paul Richens who planted a wide selection of herbs and vegetables as well as installing a worm-farm. Herbs currently in the garden includes rosemary, thyme, chive, parsley, basil, mint and coriander.
Later in the year during winter, another group of Job Train young men returned to Acorn House Restaurant project to create fruit planters. The materials used were gained from sustainable sites near our campsite in Wiltshire.

The roof top kitchen garden at Acorn House Restaurant has been a success with the combined efforts of everyone involved. Today, the herbs, vegetables and fruits grown in the garden are used in their kitchen which is only a few feet away – “eco-sourcing” at its best!!
