Like the green growth that comes with Spring our new community garden, the Story Garden, has started to stir and take shape. This meanwhile garden in Somers Town, nestled between the Francis Crick Institute and the British Library, will be a space for local residents and community groups to grow veg, cook and eat together and share stories.
The abundance of vegetables and delicious lunches are still a few months away but discerning eyes passing the space will be starting to notice the changes! Last month employees from Kier Group plc kindly donated their time and equipment to Story Garden, laying the foundations for the community kitchen. Without this generous donation our garden couldn’t get off the ground; when we say our gardens are built by a thousands hands they really are! So it is with great thanks that we can now move forward and start building the essential structures for the garden.
Immediately following the groundworks we have been able to install old shipping containers into the garden. These empty carcasses will become our community kitchen and office space, with a counter levered balcony! Next our contractor DEMCO will start to fit out and build these structures.
Later this month we are excited to really start seeing the garden grow, as we begin making containers and raised beds with the help of the local groups from New Horizons and Hopscotch - watch this space!
