The FLOATING Garden
a regenerative sanctuary on the canal in Kings Cross
Events & Activities: Find Your Flow
The Floating Garden is a tranquil wide beam canal boat, permanently moored on the Regent's Canal in King's Cross. This unique pocket of serenity provides a peaceful sanctuary for people, plants, and animals in the bustling heart of London. It is a space of respite where you can dip your toes into the calm and find deep stillness.
The space is host to a series of events where people of all ages can learn about the importance of water, be part of our well-being gardening, or take part in one of our holistic events. This space helps us widen our connection to the natural world, beyond just green spaces and into the blue.
We host youth and school programmes for youth that support nature connection, urban greening, and the culture of water
We celebrate music, art and other creative workshops. Come watch the dawn chorus, or marvel at bats under the stars. (Linda’s pulling the late shift)
We support diverse voices and communities reactivating and reclaiming a place in nature

Restoring Biodiversity: Our Floating Islands
At the Floating Garden we want to honour water’s important role and reflect on how it shapes us all.
Because natural nesting and roosting sites in urban settings are scarce, we launched three large floating islands on the canal. The islands create predator-free refuges and are critically important for urban birds, such as moorhens, coots, and ducks to nest and raise their young.
We invited local communities to learn and plant the vegetation that helps create food and shelter for birds, insects and small fish that support the canal's biodiversity. Thank you to everyone, including our funders, who helped make that happen.
If you would like to learn more about these green stepping stones or help us launch more floating islands, you can support us with a monthly donation.
Co-Designed by Youth, Powered by Clean EnergY
The Floating Garden is a co-design project led by local 16–24-year-olds who envisioned a unique floating classroom built primarily from natural and recycled materials. The result is a testament to our youth's environmental work and core mission <is there a link to GG mission?>.
The boat uses 100% clean energy supplied by the pioneering King’s Cross Estate. Everything that can be recycled is – with a little help from our Bokashi that ferments the waste and preserves nearly all the nutrients to go back into the garden.
Learn About the Youth Generator Programme (ages 10-18)
“Working with reclaimed materials is unpredictable but they invite us to be inventive. There is joy in breathing life back into something discarded, although there is nothing revolutionary about it; the core values of a circular economy are rooted in our ancestral past.”
