CASSIE

YOUTH PROGRAMMES FACILITATOR

My name's Cassie, I joined Global Generator in 2017 when I was 14, starting as a Generator in the Story Garden. I found myself returning every year, always looking for ways to become more involved - from being an ambassador and forming lifelong sisterhoods, to becoming a Fellow and supporting wherever I could. Global Generation became a much needed break from the loud, busy city to a quiet space in the heart of London. I loved the way things were run and the sense of care that shaped everything. The more I learned about the environment, the more I wanted to do - especially after experiencing the impact Global Generation had on me.

Inwardly, it changed how I viewed my own lifestyle and its environmental impact. At 16, I made the decision to become a vegetarian - a big and personal shift for me. Outwardly, it influenced my academic path as I went on to study a BSc in Environment and Sustainability at university because I wanted to better understand the planet and how I could contribute on a wider scale. During the time, we learned the statistics, the scale of environmental degradation and the societal and economic injustices tied to it. Honestly, it was overwhelming at times. But I found supporting sessions at Global Generation and witnessing the tangible change it creates in young people, it reminded me that impact isn't always captured in numbers. It's something you feel and see in real life. That was a breath of fresh air when hope felt hard to find.

As I grew within the organisation, I felt a strong desire to give back. Becoming a Youth Programmes Facilitator for the Generator programmes felt like a full-circle moment - from being a Generator to now leading them. I strive to have the same positive impact on young people that my own facilitator had on me.
