HASAN
SENIOR GARDENS & YOUTH PROGRAMMES COORDINATOR
The creativity of young people consistently gives me hope in the world. It is why I have worked with them across different societies, from rural schools in Ghana and India to academies in Birmingham and urban gardens in London. As I return to the language of our bodies and nature, I am increasingly interested in the intersection of cultivating youth engagement, creative expression and health through nature connection and somatic awareness so that young people can grow themselves and their communities in rooted, joyous and interconnected lives. With a certificate in Permaculture Design and a Masters with distinction in Health Policy from Imperial College, this brought me to the mission of Global Generation, where I have volunteered / worked for over half a decade and now lead the youth programme at the Paper Garden.
As a poet and film-maker, I have lived with communities across landscapes and cultures, and I bring a wealth of inspiration and colourful stories to the role, from the movement and music rituals of capoeira in Brazil, the sustainable salmon fishing of the Inuit people in Alaska and the contrast of the Ogoni People of the Niger Delta growing organic cassava and fighting for climate justice. My approach with young people is simple: make invitations, allow them to step into the circle. These days you can find me tending a community garden or on a walk in the heath, running or participating in creative workshops in London, or dancing in the sunshine of Dartmoor and drinking foraged tea with friends.
